Plate
The plate is incomplete; a small portion of the rim is missing and some breaks have been repaired with glue. The plate is octagonal in shape with a plain rim. The rim slopes slightly inwards, the sides are low and the bottom is flat. The plate rests on a small ring-shaped foot that is free of glaze; the decoration is molded and hand-painted in blue underglaze. The molded decoration is visible on the rim and the outer and inner walls. The painted decoration covers the entire inner and outer surfaces, as well as the center of the underside of the base; it is of the plant and animal type. The top of the rim is slightly corrugated, and the wall is decorated with radiating fluting from around the base. The painted decoration is found on the inner rim, wall and base. The marli and wall are divided into panels of two widths, repeated in alternation, and drawn with a fine, double line. The large panels are adorned with two leafy, flowering stems, each with a different flower; the base of the plants is flanked by tall grasses. The smaller panels are adorned with the same tall leafy stem supporting the same flower. All the leaves are painted dark blue. The background is framed by a thin ring. It consists of an undulating terrace, outlined in blue and painted in faded blue; it supports long grasses and three similar leafy, flowering shrubs. A bird rests at the foot of the shrubs, and a butterfly twirls in the sky. The outer wall is adorned with three long, identical leafy, flowering stems arranged in a triangle. The center of the underside is adorned with a medallion made of a double ring, housing an inscription of four Chinese characters arranged in a square.
