Plate
The plate is complete; it has a crack. The plate is circular with a plain rim. The rim slopes slightly inwards, the wall is socked and the base is flat and recessed. The plate rests on a small milled foot, which is free of glaze. Rings and various marks appear to be engraved in the glaze beneath the base. There are traces of wear on the inner base ; The decoration is hand-painted in underglaze blue. The decoration is hand-painted in blue underglaze. The painted decoration is visible on the marli, on the inner wall and on the inner base. The frieze consists of a narrow braid underlined by a ring and decorated with a latticework of alternating X’s and rhombuses. The decoration on the wall is a braid identical to that on the border. The central decoration consists of a large, blue-painted rock with a hole in it, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism. It is flanked by two leafy, flowering sock plants. Curved bamboo plants grow to the right. The perimeter of the plate is covered with an iron-brown coating.
