Plate
The plate is complete; some breaks have been repaired with metal studs and there is some glaze missing around the rim. The plate is circular with an octagonal rim. The rim slopes slightly inwards, the wall is low and the base is flat. The plate rests on a small milled foot that is free of glaze, and the bottom is recessed. The reverse side of the plate features eight pairs of circular drilled holes, which hold as many copper metal spikes; made from a rod, these spikes are each inserted into a pair of small holes. Four pairs of holes with spike ends are visible on the face; the decoration is traced and hand-painted in blue underglaze. The decoration covers the rim, wall and bottom of the plate. It is of the lake landscape type. The border frieze is composed of two elements. Near the edge, there is a narrow braid decorated with a row of small rectangles with points. The frieze consists of a row of large wavy leaves, one section of which is painted blue, and a rosette traced in blue; these elements are repeated in alternation. The decoration on the wall is a braid painted blue and decorated in reserve with a row of lozenges topped with a rosette. The background depicts an oriental scene with water and three islands painted in faded blue. The island in the foreground is lined with undulating rocks and features a pagoda with a stepped roof and a willow tree; a small covered boat sails behind the island. The main island is lined with rocks and a leafy tree; it appears to have an artificial terrace painted dark blue, supporting a building with a stepped roof supported by poles and bordered by a leafy tree and a willow. The second island, bordered by rocks and a rocky beach, houses a pavilion with a stepped roof behind a gabled wall pierced by latticework openings. The building is bordered by tall, leafy trees, including a palm. The island in the background supports a few trees. A covered boat sails on the water, and birds flutter in the sky.
