Plate
The plate is complete; it has two cracks. The plate is circular with a plain rim. The rim slopes slightly inwards, the wall is socked and the base is flat and recessed. The plate rests on a small, glaze-free, milled foot; the decoration is traced and hand-painted in underglaze blue. The decoration covers the rim and bottom of the plate. It is of a figurative, lakeside landscape type. The border consists of a braid underlined by a ring and adorned with a latticework of alternating X’s and lozenges. The background features an oriental scene with water, two islands and a figure, surrounded by a double ring. The main island is an uneven terrace painted in faded blue, supporting rocks at the foot of large leafy trees, one of which appears to be laden with fruit. This island partially conceals a covered wooden sock. On the foredeck, a woman stands on a carpet, holding a long vertical pole; a small dog hops at her feet. In the background, another island stands out, lined with rocks and housing an oriental-style pagoda with a stepped roof and a pavilion whose roof is supported by poles. Birds flutter in the sky. The perimeter of the plate is covered with iron-brown plaster.
