Plate
The plate is complete, with a few cracks and missing glaze around the rim. The plate is circular with a plain rim. The rim slopes slightly inwards, the sides are socked and the bottom is flat and recessed. The plate rests on a small milled foot that is free of glaze. There are slight flaws on the inner base; the decoration is hand-painted in blue underglaze. It is of the Chinese garden type. The painted decoration is visible on the inner rim and inner base. The marli decoration is composed of three similar sets of foliage and flowers, arranged in a triangle from the edge of the plate. The central decoration is encircled by a double ring; it consists of two sections of fencing made of vertical posts and panels adorned with a swastika and resting on a surface covered with stylized tufts of grass. At one end of the fence is a large, stylized boulder with a hole in it, a symbol of the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, traced and painted in blue; at the front is a tall tree that appears to be a palm tree, flanked by a leafy, flowering plant. Behind the fence stands a bamboo plant.
