Plate
The plate is complete; there is some missing glaze around the rim and an area that appears to have been repainted. The plate is circular in shape, with a plain rim. In cross-section, the rim is in line with the marli, which slopes towards the bottom, the wall is low and curved towards the bottom, which is flat. The reverse of the plate is truncated cone-shaped, with the center recessed and flat. The base of the plate is flat and wide, and almost entirely covered with glaze. The body is pinkish-beige in color and covered with a bluish-white enamel; there are enamel losses under the marli and under the base, and the reverse shows small holes in the enamel. Three traces of linear and triangular pernettes are visible under the marli. There is a mark painted in blue under the base: I. The inner base shows small linear marks and traces of wear; the decoration is hand-painted in blue under glaze. It is of the floral and Chinese garden type. The decoration is painted on the rim and on the base. The border is decorated with three identical triangular motifs, consisting of a central flower flanked by leafy stems. The background is a garden scene, surrounded by a double ring. The scene consists of an uneven, grassy terrace, on which rests a rock with a hole in it, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, flanked by a flower and a fence with a post and vertical boards. Behind the fence rises a leafy stem terminating in a peony-like flower. Behind the rock stands a flowering shrub; on one of its branches stands a bird seen in profile to the left, and another bird twirling in front of it.
