Plate
The plate is complete; there is some missing around the rim and some flaws on the reverse. The plate is circular in shape, with an octagonal rim and concave corners. The rim slopes slightly inwards, the side is socked and the bottom is flat and recessed. The plate rests on a small, glaze-free, milled foot; the decoration is traced and hand-painted in underglaze blue. The decoration covers the rim, wall and bottom of the plate. It is of the lake landscape type. The border frieze is complex, consisting of two groups of elements repeated alternately on the sides of the plate’s border. One group is composed of a wide braid adorned with two rows of core cells and trimmed with two blue-painted grecques; it is bordered at each end by a blue-painted Ruyi head in reserve. The other group is composed of a wide blue-painted braid with two Greciques and flowers in reserve. Half-flowers surrounded by leaves rest on the braids. The decoration on the wall is a row of pairs of spirals encircling a trident and resting on a double fillet. The background depicts an oriental scene with water and islands painted in faded blue. The main island is bordered by rocks and supports three pavilions with oriental-style double-sloped roofs. The buildings are bordered by deciduous trees and a tall pine. This island is linked to another by a wide, plank-covered bridge, on which two people walk. The island is lined with rocks and supports a pavilion and a pagoda with a stepped roof, as well as trees, including a willow, a pine, a deciduous tree and what appear to be palm trees. In the background, another island stands out, housing pavilions and an oriental-style stepped-roof pagoda. Three sailboats sail on the water, and birds twirl in the sky.
