Plate
The plate is complete; there are slight flaws on the face. The plate is circular with a plain rim. The rim slopes slightly inwards, the wall is low and the bottom is flat and recessed. The plate rests on a small milled foot that is free of glaze ; The decoration is hand-painted in underglaze blue. It is of the Chinese garden type. The painted decoration is visible on the marli and on the inner background. The frieze consists of a narrow braid underlined by a ring and adorned with a latticework of alternating X’s and pointed lozenges, interrupted at regular intervals by a half-flower. The central decoration is encircled by a double ring; it consists of an uneven terrace painted dark blue. In the center, it supports a large rock with a hole in it, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, traced and painted in blue. Adjoining it is an angled fence with vertical posts, painted in dark, faded blue. On the other side stands a massive, leafy, flowering plant, seemingly stocked with pomegranates. The perimeter of the plate is covered with iron-brown plaster.
