Plate
The plate is circular, with a plain rim. It is complete. The rim is thick and slightly rounded. The rim is sloping and flat; the side is curved and the bottom is flat. On the reverse, the plate rests on a small domed ring foot; the base is recessed and flat. There are three traces of three pernette marks on the reverse of the plate. There is a concentration of pale blue tinted glaze at the junction of the base and foot. There are numerous linear marks on the inner base; the decoration is applied by transfer printed; it is brown in color and has an English country motif. The printed decoration is visible on the inner border and inner base. The decoration on the marli, which also covers the start of the wall, consists of two distinct elements. Near the edge is a ring in various shades of brown, from which emerge grass and flowering curved plant stems in two alternately repeated formats. These curved plant stems rest on a background of broken, parallel horizontal lines. This background is bordered, at the junction of the border and the wall, by a row of double arcs, with a triangle in the center, separated by a small fleur-de-lys. The background depicts an English rural scene, with a mill, bridge, buildings and trees. In the foreground is a river, lined with grass and shrubs; the river is closed by a dam, flanked by a water mill with a paddle wheel, lined with trees. In the background is a cottage with a smoking fireplace, its wooded grounds enclosed by a wooden fence. In the background, a two-arched wooden bridge crosses the river; two people stand on it. Beyond the bridge rise a wooded area and a church with an imposing steeple topped by thick clouds. The rendering of the scenery is sharp.
