This pewter tray is stamped with the coat of arms of Louis d’Ailleboust, seigneur de Coulonge et d’Argentenay and governor of New France from 1648 to 1651. Two hallmarks on reverse.

Historical context
This pewter platter bears the coat of arms of Louis d’Ailleboust, Seigneur de Coulonge et d’Argentenay. Born in France, in the province of Champagne, this brilliant military engineer had a fervent desire to leave for New France.
