Plate
The plate is complete; a portion of the glaze around the rim has disappeared and there is a break which has been repaired with glue. It is circular in shape with a plain rim. On the front, the marli slopes towards the bottom, and the low wall curves towards the slightly domed base. On the reverse, the plate is truncated cone-shaped with a small, slightly concave central base. The reverse glaze is slightly flawed. The body is beige, and the object is covered with a white glaze. There are three traces of a pernette in a triangular pattern on the reverse. The enamel on the front is shiny. The plate is light; the decoration is hand-painted in blue underglaze. Vegetal and floral motifs. The painted decoration is distributed on the inner rim, wall and base, as well as on the reverse. The decoration covers the marli and the wall. Bordered by a thin fillet near the rim and on the wall, it consists of three plant groups, two of which are similar, arranged in a triangle; they rest on an undulating terrace painted in dark, faded blue. In two cases, three groups of long, leafy, flowering stems emanate from the terrace; in the third group, these stems are absent. The background is framed by a thin ring. It consists of a blue-painted islet that appears to be surrounded by water; it supports a large, highly stylized rock with a hole in it, a symbol of the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, traced and painted in dark blue. To the left is a leafy, flowering plant, supporting two large identical flowers, while to the right is a small leafy, flowering plant. On the reverse, the border is adorned with three identical groups of wavy, leafy, flowering stems. In the center of the background is an archaic bronze cauldron.
