Plate
The plate is complete. The plate is circular with a plain rim. The rim slopes slightly inwards, the wall is socked and the base is flat and recessed. The plate rests on a small milled foot, located in line with the outer wall and free of glaze. The decoration is hand-painted in blue underglaze and red overglaze, with touches of gilding, in the Imari style. It is vegetal and landscape in style. The painted decoration is visible on the inner rim and on the inner background. The decoration on the marli is composed of two different elements. Near the edge, there is a braid traced in blue and trimmed with a lattice of lozenges traced in blue. The other is made up of the same group of floral elements, repeated three times and arranged in a triangle. The central element is a leafy, flowering plant traced and painted in blue, with long, wavy side branches. Each is decorated with flowers and leaves traced and painted in red with gold highlights. The central decoration is surrounded by a double ring traced in blue. It features a naturalistic scene, with a rock and plants resting on an undulating terrace. The terrace is outlined in blue. On the terrace, in the center, rises a perforated rock, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, traced and painted in blue with gilding. Behind the rock stand two leafy shrubs in bloom. The shrubs are traced and painted in blue with gold, and are garnished with flowers and leaves traced in red and painted in red and gold.
