Specializing in inland shipping, the Richelieu & Ontario Navigation Company was born in 1874 from the merger of the Compagnie du Richelieu and the Canadian Steam Navigation Company. Its first president was none other than Sir Hugh Allan, wealthy owner of the Allan Line.
