Saucer
The saucer is complete; there is a small missing edge. It is circular in shape. The wall is flared at the top, and the rim is slightly flared. The wall curves at the base towards the sock, which is flat. It rests on a ring-shaped foot. The underside of the base is recessed and flat. The foot is beveled and free of glaze ; The decoration is on the inner rim and bottom. The decoration is of a scenic animal type. It is hand-painted in underglaze blue. The ribbon drawn under the inner rim is decorated with a double latticework with spikes; it is underlined by a fillet. The decoration on the inner background consists of a blue terrace supporting a central group of three rocks with holes, symbols of the Chinese philosophy of Taoism; atop the high rock stands a bird. Behind the rocks emerges a leafy stem supporting a large flower, probably a chrysanthemum. To the left of the rocks rise leafy bamboos, while to the right there’s another rock with a hole in it. A small bird twirls in the sky.
