Saucer
The saucer is complete. It is circular in shape. The wall is flared at the top, and the rim is plain. The wall extends to the bottom, which is flat. It rests on a ring-shaped foot. The underside of the base is recessed and flat. There is a mark printed in blue under the bottom: Spode. There is a mark painted in red under the bottom near the foot: 2638. At the end of these numbers is a symbol painted in silver-grey, made of interlocking semi-circles ; The decoration is painted on the cover and applied by transfer printing. The painted design is gold, green and yellow, while the printed design is pale blue and red, with a plant and fantasy motif. Both the painted and printed decoration are visible on the outer wall, i.e. under the rim, at the base of the wall and on the bottom. Under the rim, it consists of a narrow braid adorned with simple plant scrolls, regularly interrupted by a rosette; the whole is traced in red with gold highlights. The decoration on the wall is printed in very pale blue and consists of three main elements arranged in a triangle: two phoenixes and a flower flanked by leaves, between which are two different, smaller stylized plant motifs. At the base of the wall is a braid composed of two main elements repeated alternately and traced in red. There is a central flower flanked by scrolls bordered by two half-flowers, with gold highlights, then a reserved area adorned with a leafy, flowering stem, with green and yellow enamel highlights, and bordered by a wavy, vertical double line. The background motif is set within a circle supporting a row of conjoined X’s, all in red. The main decoration consists of various plant and floral motifs arranged around a large central leafy and flowering stem.
