Saucer

The saucer is complete; a chip is missing from the inner rim, and a break has been repaired with glue. It is circular in shape. The wall is slightly flared at the top, with a straight edge and a corrugated top. The wall curves at the base towards the sock, which is flat. It rests on an annular foot, with a beveled outer rim. The bottom is recessed and flat. The bottom glaze, near its junction with the foot, has been wiped clean. The decoration is molded, transfer printed and painted with gilding. The decoration is dark blue with an oriental motif (Temple). The molded decoration is visible on the inner wall, and perceptible on the outer wall; it consists of vertical flutes. The printed decoration is visible on the inner wall and base, occupying almost the entire surface. The decoration on the wall is complex and consists of two groups of different elements repeated in alternation. One group consists of a half-flower in reserve, from which a long scroll extends; it is flanked on the right by staggered cells and on the left by a latticework with off-center beads, similar to fish scales; this latticework is adorned with a trifoliate motif with a reserve outline, bordered by wheels and flowers. The other motif features a six-petal flower in reserve, in the center of a lattice. The background features an oriental scene with river, bridge and islands. On the main island in the foreground, which is cross-hatched, stand two tiered pagodas, with trees in between. The pagoda on the right is bordered by a wall and features an opening, close to a staircase, in which a figure looms. At the base of the wall is an opening in which a figure also appears, opposite which is another figure. In the foreground is a non-hatched, oval-shaped area with two standing figures, seen in profile and facing each other; one is carrying an umbrella. To the left, a single-arch bridge spans a stream; a figure crosses the bridge on horseback, followed by a figure on foot with a long parasol. A small boat moves forward at the foot of the bridge, while another boat sails in the background, past another island with buildings and trees; rocks border it at water level. The rendering of the decor is sharp. A fillet of gilding has been painted under the inner edge.
