Saucer

The saucer is complete; it has a crack. It is circular in shape. The wall is flared at the top, and the rim is tapered. The wall curves at the base towards the sock, which is flat. It rests on a rounded foot ring. The underside of the base is recessed and flat. The base is beveled and free of glaze; the decoration covers the inside of the saucer, i.e. the inner rim and base. The decoration is of the vegetable type, treated in Imari. It is hand-painted in two-tone blue underglaze, then traced and painted in iron red, with gold highlights, over glaze. The braid under the inner rim is traced in blue and outlined with a fillet. It is composed of two alternately repeated elements. One element is a plant motif traced and painted in blue with gilding, bordered by two leaves with veins traced in red, and set between curved bands traced in blue and painted in blue and red. The second element is a double-petal trellis with spikes traced in red. The background decoration consists of a small central medallion made of a double circle traced in blue with gilding. Two identical, mirrored plant elements emerge from this medallion: two central stems traced and painted in blue, topped by two flowers: one traced and painted in blue with gilding, the other in red with gilding. They are surrounded by various leaves, in blue and red. The space between these two elements is occupied by two identical flowering, leafy stems, with the central flower traced and painted in red. The center of the medallion is occupied by a small leafy stem traced in red and topped by a flower traced and painted in blue.
