Dish
The dish is complete; there are slight flaws on its face and a break has been repaired with metal studs. It is circular in shape with a plain rim. In cross-section, the dish has a flat wing, a flared wall and a flat bottom resting on a ring-shaped foot. The reverse of the dish features two pairs of drilled holes, each holding a copper metal spike; the decoration is hand-painted underglaze in monochrome blue. It is of the oriental landscape type. The decoration is visible on the inner rim and inner base. The inner border features a narrow braid underlined by a line and adorned with a lattice of lozenges. The background is bordered by a double ring. It consists of an undulating terrace, outlined and painted in blue, on which a tree, a rock and two flowering plants stand. The tree is a huge leafy willow. At its feet is a large, highly stylized, blue-painted rock with a hole in it, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism. To the left is a leafy, flowering plant, and to the right, a peony. The perimeter of the dish is covered with an iron-brown coating.
