Dish

The dish is complete; there is some missing enamel around the rim and a break has been repaired with iron wire. The dish is rectangular and octagonal in shape, with a plain rim. In cross-section, the rim is bulging, the marli is barely sloping towards the bottom; the wall is low and curved towards the bottom, which is flat. On the reverse, the dish has a large, flat base; the wall is flared and the marli is flared and domed. The body is beige in color and covered with a glossy white glaze. There are slight flaws in the glaze. The support point and bottom of the dish show signs of wear. There are linear wear marks on the inner base. The dish has five pairs of drilled holes into which as many iron wires are inserted; on the face, the wires have a central drop and the ends of these wires are twisted on the reverse of the dish. The reverse is covered with a white paste in the area of the iron wires; the decoration is molded and hand-painted in blue underglaze. It features embroidery and floral motifs. The molded decoration is visible on the rim and on the marli: on the rim, it consists of a row of slight swellings perpendicular to the rim, followed by a narrow swelling. The decoration is painted on both the marli and the background. The marli is decorated with a band between two fillets near the edge; this set supports a row of semicircles, while another fillet borders two alternately repeated embroidery elements. Each is composed of elements repeated in mirror image, starting from a central element. The background decoration is floral. It consists of a leafy stem topped with a variety of flowers.
