Dish

The dish is complete; there is some missing enamel around the rim and some breaks have been repaired with iron studs. The dish is oval in shape, with an undulating rim and concave centers at the ends. In cross-section, the rim is bulging, the marli sloping towards the bottom and slightly concave; the wall is high and curved towards the bottom, which is flat. On the reverse, the dish has a large, flat base; the wall is flared and the marli is flared and domed. The body is beige in color and covered with a shiny, pinkish-white glaze. Four traces of linear and cross-shaped beads are visible under the marli. The enamel is slightly flawed. The support point and bottom of the dish show signs of wear. There are two breaks, in the center and near the rim. On the reverse, the one in the center has four pairs of drilled holes, three of which each hold an iron spike held in place by a white paste; one of the pairs has lost its spike. The break on the edge has seven pairs of aligned holes; three are widely spaced and plugged with plaster, while the other four pairs, less widely spaced, hold the ends of four iron spikes, made from a double rod. Some of the plaster-filled holes are visible on the face of the dish. The upper edge of the dish, in the center, is pierced by a pair of circular suspension holes, the inside of which is unglazed ; The decoration is molded and hand-painted in blue underglaze. It features embroidery and a coat-of-arms. The molded decoration is visible on the contour and on the marli. The contour is wavy; the decoration on the marli appears as bulges perpendicular to the contour and aligned with the concave parts. The decoration is painted on both the marli and the background. The marli is decorated with a band between two fillets near the edge, one of which borders two alternately repeated embroidery elements. Each is made up of mirror-repeated elements, starting from a central element. The background is adorned with a monogram made up of two identical letters arranged in a mirror pattern; they are embellished with acanthus leaves. They are surmounted by a marquis’s crown. Inside the monogram is a star motif.
