Bowl

The bowl is complete; the glaze is missing all around the rim. The bowl is circular, with a flared rim and plain rim, and a sloping wall curving towards the flat bottom. On the reverse, it rests on a massive ring-shaped foot, whose beveled base is free of glaze. The bottom is recessed and flat. There is a blue painted mark below the base, in a double ring; it is a sagebrush leaf. There are slight flaws in the glaze on the reverse. The decoration is hand-painted in green, dark blue, orange, yellow and brown polychrome enamels on glaze in the Famille verte style. It is of the vegetal type. It is visible on the inner rim and base, as well as on the outer wall. The decoration on the rim is a braid drawn in brown. It is decorated with two different motifs, repeated in alternation. One motif is a double lattice of spikes or diamonds, painted yellow and green. The other pattern includes four of the Eight Precious Objects: the mirror, the jade gong, the pair of books and a scroll; drawn in brown, they are painted blue, while the ribbons are painted green. These motifs are surrounded by arched bands painted brown and framed by a fillet drawn in orange. The decoration on the inner background consists of four groups of leafy, flowering stems, hanging from the border braid towards the center. Three groups rest on a green-painted terrace, while the other group appears to be made of lacustrine plants, the water suggested by orange lines. Stems are traced and painted in brown, leaves are painted in green; flowers are traced and painted in orange, while others, traced in brown, are painted in dark blue and yellow. The outer wall is adorned with two leafy, flowering stems: they are outlined in orange, like the flowers, while the leaves are painted green.
