Bowl

The bowl is complete. It is circular in shape, with an undulating wing around the rim. The wing is narrow and inclined inwards, the wall is flared towards the wing and curves towards the flat bottom. On the reverse, it rests on an annular foot whose fulcrum is free of glaze. The center is recessed and flat. The foot is imprinted with fine gravel. The rim has lost some of its glaze ; The decoration is molded and hand-painted in blue on the front and reverse. The molded decoration is in the form of a vertical bulge on the inside, and recessed on the outside. The painted decoration is vegetal, in the Kraak style from China. The inner surface of the object is entirely decorated. There is a wavy line near the edge. The wing and wall are decorated with a row of oval medallions with pointed tops; their outer perimeter is made of a double fillet with a solid center. Each medallion features an identical leafy, flowering stem. Above the medallions is a full Taotie mask, with both eyes and mouth in reserve. Between these medallions are vertical compartments delimited by a line and trimmed with a knotted ribbon. The central decoration is encircled by a ring. It consists of a leaf, one of the Eight Precious Objects, surrounded by wide ribbons and braids. On the reverse, the bowl is decorated on the underside of the wing and on the wall. The wing features a ribbon made of a wavy net near the rim and plain at its junction with the wall; it is decorated with two long foliage leaves with a central flower and separated by two pearls. The wall is lined with alternating wide and narrow compartments; they are delimited by nets closed at the ends by a line, one at the junction with the wing and the other, double, at the junction of the wall with the foot. The larger ones feature an oval cartouche surrounding a spiral encircled by four pearls, while the others have an elongated, solid symbol.
