Bowl

The bowl is complete; a break has been repaired with wire, there is a crack on the wall and a small chip missing from the rim. The bowl is circular in shape. In profile, it has a slightly flared wall topped by a straight rim. The lower part of the wall is curved towards the bottom, which is flat. The bowl rests on a solid ring foot, whose beveled base is free of glaze; the bottom is recessed and flat. There is a blue-painted mark below the bottom in a double ring: it is close to the hollow rhombus. The bowl features three pairs of drilled holes, with iron wires running through them, held in place by a white paste ; The decoration is hand-painted in green, blue, orange, yellow and brown polychrome enamels on glaze in the Green Family style. It is of the vegetal and Chinese garden type. It is visible on the outer wall, and under the inner rim and base. The decoration under the inner rim is a braid drawn in brown and outlined with a fillet. It is decorated with two different motifs, repeated alternately. One of the motifs is in reserve on a green background; it consists of two rows of half-cells decorated with flowers traced and painted in orange. The other motif features two of the Eight Precious Objects placed in alternation, the solid lozenge and the mirror, both traced in brown; the lozenge is painted blue, the mirror yellow, while the ribbons are painted green. These motifs are framed by arched bands painted green. The inner background is decorated with a small leafy, flowering stem; the leaves are outlined in brown and painted green, while the flower is painted orange. The outer wall features two different decorations. The main decoration consists of a brown and green-painted terrace; it supports a brown and green-painted rock with holes, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, as well as numerous brown and green-painted leafy stems, topped by small green, yellow, blue and orange-painted flowers. The decoration on the opposite wall is distinguished by the absence of a rock, and by the presence of stems and flowers different from those in the main decoration; they are, however, painted in the same colors.
