Bowl

The bowl is complete, with a long crack. It is circular in shape, with an undulating rim. The rim is flared, and the flared wall curves towards the flat bottom. On the reverse, it rests on a ring-shaped foot, the base of which is unglazed; the bottom is recessed and flat. The foot is pierced by two aligned circular mounting holes, the inside of which is covered with enamel. The body is beige in color, and the object is covered with a slightly bluish white enamel; the enamel on the outer wall is thin and allows the body color to show through. There is a blue-painted mark below the base: 2; the decoration is molded and hand-painted in blue. The molded decoration is visible on the outer wall and under the inner rim. On the outer wall, it consists of vertical ribs extending from the foot to under the rim; they are barely perceptible on the inner wall, and take the form of grooves. The outer rim is decorated with a row of gadroons that are not aligned with the ribs on the wall; below the inner rim, the gadroons are concave. Painted decoration is found on the inner wall and base, and on the reverse. The decoration on the wall is a wide braid featuring four oval medallions with a blue background, each adorned with a leaf in reserve; the center is surrounded by an oval in reserve and its perimeter is trimmed with two plant motifs painted in blue. The space between the medallions is decorated with foliage. The main decoration rests on the inner background and is encircled by a ring. It consists of a lake scene, featuring a lake surrounded by trees and foliage, on which sails a small Asian-style boat. A castle-like building stands on a peninsula in the middle ground, while a mountainous landscape stretches out in the background. The sky is cloudy and birds flutter about. The reverse features a row of three Vs painted blue and arranged in a triangle.
