Grand dîner du Beaver Club
Montage of seven color photographs taken at the Beaver Club’s annual dinner at Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel. Year after year, the Beaver Club continued a tradition dating back to the very beginning of the British conquest. This club still brings together important members of the Montreal community, all of whom have their own copper plate, with their name on it, at this hotel restaurant. -1st photo, from top, shows the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Governor General of Canada. -2nd photo, below left, shows Madame Jacqueline Desmarais, wife of Paul Desmarais, President of Power Corporation, in conversation with the Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada, and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, Prime Minister of Canada. Note the warmth of the relationship between Mr. Trudeau and m. Mulroney, despite their different political stripes. 3rd photo, on the right, shows the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Governor General of Canada, preceded by her aide-de-camp and followed by one of the club members also wearing the Order of Canada. Between Madame Sauvé and her aide-de-camp, the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney’s assistant. -4th photo, bottom left, shows the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Governor General of Canada, shaking hands with the Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau, former Prime Minister. Between them, in the distance, Madame Jacqueline Desmarais. -5th photo: The Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada. -6th photo, shows the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Governor General of Canada, shaking hands with a guest. -7th photo, shows the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, Prime Minister of Canada, surrounded by his bodyguards, in front of his young executive assistant.
