Black and white photograph. Streetcar track installed in the new section of Verdun Street (?) near Woodland Street. At the time, there was a streetcar terminus in this area. Two-storey houses under construction are a reminder of the urbanization of the new municipality of Verdun (1909), located in the southwest of the island of Montreal. Verdun grew rapidly and, by the 1920s, had become the 3rd largest city in Quebec.

Historical context
Harry Sutcliffe (1878-1942), photographe canadien d’origine britannique, a réalisé ce cliché d’une voie de tramway située à l’intersection des rues de Verdun et Woodland. La présence de bâtiments de deux étages en construction dans cette photographie est un indice de l’urbanisation massive de Verdun au début du 20e siècle.
