Historical context
Il s’agit d’une photographie de William Notman du théâtre Rialto. Immigré à Montréal en 1856 depuis l’Écosse, il photographie entre 1858 et 1860, toutes les étapes de la construction du pont Victoria. La qualité de son travail fait vite sa renommée et son studio, repris par ses fils à la suite de son décès, produit d’innombrables clichés de la ville de Montréal.
