Historical context
This photograph, taken by Harry Sutcliffe in 1931, shows the Rivière-des-Prairies hydroelectric power station as seen from Île Jésus (Laval), just a few months after its commissioning. The fundamental technology for generating electricity from water turbines has been known since at least 1890.
