Black and white photograph. Coal carrier S.S. Storstad (from Norway) after its collision with the Empress of Ireland in 1914 on the St. Lawrence River. On the night of May 29, 1914, the Storstad, blinded by fog, hit the Empress of Ireland (1906) dead center, causing her to sink. More than a thousand people lost their lives in this maritime disaster, which occurred 11 km off Pointe-au-Père, Quebec.
