Black and white photograph. Montmorency Falls near Quebec City in the winter of 1918. This 84-meter-high waterfall was one of the first in Quebec to be harnessed for power generation. A hydroelectric dam was built here as early as 1885. A huge Dominion Textile cotton mill (1905-1985) was built at the foot of the falls, harnessing the water’s power.
