Historical context

François Baby was born in Montreal in 1733. He studied with the Jesuits and followed in his father’s footsteps in the fur trade. His brothers worked in the trading regions, while he was in Montreal, handling accounts and shipping goods with correspondents in Paris, Bordeaux and La Rochelle.
