Historical context

Philippe-Joseph Aubert de Gaspé naît en 1786. Il étudie à Québec, entre autres aux côtés de Louis-Joseph Papineau, et devient avocat. Il participe activement à la vie culturelle et financière de Québec : vice-président de la société littéraire de Québec, membre fondateur du Jockey Club, membre fondateur de la Banque de Québec, etc. Il occupe aussi différents postes dans l’armée et devient shérif du district de Québec...
