Jug
The jug is complete. It is circular and massive. The shoulder is rounded, the neck is short and straight, the rim is straight and the top is flat and wide. The wall is straight, while the base has a slight bevel. It rests on a flat, unglazed base. The handle is vertical. Oval in shape and cross-section, its upper end rests on the neck, while the other is folded down and rests on the wall; this end is oval and flattened. Engraved in five registers on the shoulder and wall, below the collar, are: LA COMPAGNIE D’APPROVISIONNEMENTS ALIMENTAIRES 246 RUE SAINT PAUL MONTREAL. The outer surface is gray; the bottom underside is russet brown, and the interior is covered with a brown, Albany-type plaster. None, except for the salt glaze, which gives the surface a glossy appearance, and the cobalt blue applied to the recessed inscriptions on the wall.
