Jug reproduction

The jug is complete. It is circular in shape. The wall is domed, the neck is slightly narrowed and the rim is flared, with a high, oval-shaped pouring spout. The wall is tapered towards the base, which is flared. It rests on a flat, glaze-free base, with a recessed, flat center. The handle is vertical. Oval in shape and cross-section, its ends are turned down and rest on the wall. There is an oval intaglio mark below the base: LEEDSWARE CLASSICAL CREAMWARE ENGLAND; Transfer-printed in black. It occupies the two opposite walls. The motif is humorous. On one wall, a laurel wreath surrounds an oval medallion, in which two busts, one male and one female, are facing each other. In the upper part of the medallion, inverted, is MATRIMONY; in the lower part, COURTYARD. Below the crown is a short poetic text printed on four lines. The opposite wall features a bucolic scene of seduction in the field. Below the scene is a short poetic text printed on four lines and two columns.
