Jug
The jug is complete, except for a chip on its base. It is circular and massive. The shoulder is rounded, the neck short and straight, the rim straight and the top flat and wide. The base of the neck has a horizontal annular bulge. The wall is straight, as is the base. It rests on a flat, unglazed base. The handle is vertical. Oval in shape and cross-section, its upper end rests on the neck, while the other is folded down and rests on the wall; this end is oval and pinched on the sides. There are uneven bulges on the handle. Engraved in five registers on the shoulder and wall below the neck: H BEAUTEY VINS ET LIQU(E)URS 22 RUE DE LA FABRIQUE QUEBEC 2. The outer surface is grey; the underside of the base is russet brown and the interior is covered with a brown, Albany-type coating ; None, apart from the salt glaze that gives the surface a shiny appearance and the cobalt blue applied to the inscriptions made by intaglio printing on the wall.
