Soup plate
This soup plate is complete. It is circular and thick, with a small, smoothly contoured wing. The top of the wing is swollen, and the wall slopes towards the bottom, which is flat. The plate rests on a ring-shaped foot free of glaze. The body is brownish-red and well-fired; the plate is covered on its face and rim with a white slip covered with a colorless glaze; the slip has flowed to the reverse, which is uniformly covered only with glaze. The decoration has been coated, scraped and painted, and features an animal motif. On the face, the red body has been covered with a yellowish-white slip, which has been scraped to create geometric motifs and an animal scene, revealing the red background; touches of copper and iron oxides have been added. The marli is decorated with three superimposed scraped grooves. The background motif consists of a bird in profile to the right, resting on an undulating terrace. Copper and iron touches have been added to the bird and the terrace.
