Soup plate

The plate is complete; some enamel is missing around the rim. The plate is circular, with an undulating rim. In cross-section, the rim is in line with the marli, which is slightly inclined towards the bottom and flat, the wall is high and the bottom is flat. On the reverse, the plate rests on a ring-shaped foot, with a flat, recessed base. The base is flat and free of glaze. The body is pinkish-beige in color and covered with a bluish-white enamel; there are enamel losses under the marli and under the base, and a slight flaw in the enamel of the marli. Three traces of linear and triangular pernettes are visible under the marli. There is a blue-painted mark under the mauve-painted background: D. The inner base shows small linear marks and traces of wear; the decoration is hand-painted in purple underglaze. It is of the floral and Chinese garden type. The decoration is painted on the rim and on the base. The border is decorated with three identical triangular motifs, consisting of a central fan-shaped flower, flanked by leafy stems. The background is a garden scene, surrounded by a latticework braid and a double ring. The scene consists of a terrace on which rests a rock with a hole in it, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, in front of a fence with posts and vertical planks. Behind the fence rise two leafy stems, one of which is terminated by a peony-like flower. Behind the rock stands a leafy bamboo plant.
