Soup plate
The plate is circular with a plain rim. It is complete, with the exception of a few small chips on the rim and under the edge of the border. The rim is thick and slightly domed. The marli slopes slightly inwards and is concave, with a small bulge at its junction with the wall; the wall is curved and the base is flat. On the reverse, the plate rests on an annular foot; the bottom is recessed and flat. There are three pernette marks under the plate. The center of the bottom has a small mark made by intaglio printing: it is difficult to identify and appears to be geometric. There is a mark printed in dark grey under the base; it consists of a curved banner ending in acanthus leaves curved inwards, and on which is inscribed the word: CLARENDON; the letter D is printed under the banner. There are linear marks on the inner base of the plate. There is a small flaw in the face glaze. The plate is stained on the front and reverse with clouds of gray material that have seeped through the glaze into the paste ; The decoration is applied by transfer printing; it is dark gray in color and floral in motif. The decoration on the marli is located close to the edge: it consists of a small band composed of a row of finely traced geometric shapes similar to a crown, the ends of which are terminated in a spiral; the shapes are supported by a row of wavy ovals open on the outer side. The main decoration covers the wall, and extends partially over the inner border and base. It consists of four groups of leafy, flowering branches, each featuring a different flower. Acanthus leaves link the branches. The rendering of the decoration is slightly blurred. The junction of the decoration is visible on the inner border.
