Soup plate

The plate has a circular shape with a plain rim pinched at regular intervals. It is complete. The rim is thick and slightly domed. The rim is concave and slightly inclined inwards, with a small bulge at its junction with the wall; the wall is curved and the base is flat. On the reverse, the plate rests on a double countersunk foot; the bottom is recessed and flat. On the reverse, below the base, there is a mark printed in blue. It consists of a rectangular cartouche, with a rectangular base surmounted by two vertical columns topped by a curved band. The base surrounds the letters: STONE CHINA, while between the columns is an anchor seen from the front and inclined; the band surrounds the letters: DAVENPORT. Orange-painted numerals near the foot: 659. The face of the plate is stained with what appear to be grains of sand embedded in the glaze. The decoration is applied by transfer printing and painted in polychrome of orange, yellow, green and pale pink, with touches of gold, over the glaze; the printed decoration is blue with a floral motif. The printed decoration is visible on the marli and on the inner base. The decoration on the marli consists of a vegetal motif in pale and dark blue, made up of leafy branches and flowers, repeated three times; they are enhanced with enamels and gold. The background decoration is floral. It consists of a shapeless mass, probably an oriental rock, in dark blue, with medallions in reserve filled with flowers and ovals painted in orange; the mass and the flowers are surrounded by gold. From this mass emerge leafy, flowering branches, highlighted in pink, yellow and green, as well as gold. The rim of the plate is covered with a pale brown coating. The decoration is clearly rendered.
