Soup plate

The plate has a circular shape with a plain rim pinched at regular intervals. It is complete. The rim is thick and slightly domed. The rim slopes slightly inwards, with a small bulge at its junction with the wall; the wall is curved and the base is slightly domed. On the reverse, the plate rests on an annular foot, free of glaze; the bottom is recessed and flat. There are three pernette marks under the bottom of the plate. There is a mark under the bottom: it is printed in blue on two registers and consists of the words IRONSTONE CHINA WARRANTED. There is a mark painted in red under the base, near the foot: S.; The decoration is applied by transfer printed and painted in polychrome of red, green and pale pink, with a touch of gold, on the cover; the printed decoration is blue and of landscape motif with insect (Indian Grasshopper). The printed decoration is visible on the inner rim, wall and base. The border of the marli is adorned with a frieze composed of a chain of scrolls underlined by a fine line. The border is decorated with a vegetal motif of leafy branches and flowers, repeated three times, enhanced with red and green. The decoration on the wall consists of a row of spearheads linked by a wavy line and supported by a fine line; the whole is highlighted in pale pink. The background features a landscape scene with leafy branches and flowers, highlighted in red and green, as well as gold-painted lines in one case, and an insect, probably a grasshopper, highlighted in pale pink. The rim of the plate is covered with a pale brown coating. The decoration is clearly rendered. There is a flaw in one of the red highlights on the background.
