Tea bowl
The tea bowl is complete, with a small chip on the rim. It is circular in shape. In profile, the bowl has an upwardly flaring wall topped by a flaring rim. The lower part of the wall curves towards the flat bottom. The bowl rests on a small annular foot. The outer rim of the foot is beveled and free of glaze. The bottom is flat and recessed. The bowl is thin-walled; the decoration covers the outside of the bowl, as well as the inside rim and bottom. The decoration is floral and of the external brown coating type, known as Batavia. It is hand-painted in blue underglaze. The ribbon under the inner rim is decorated with a row of triangles made of inclined lines. The decoration on the inner base consists of a small double medallion bearing the same decoration repeated three times and arranged in a triangular pattern. It features a small domed terrace painted blue, supporting long, wavy, leafy stems with a central flower. The medallion surrounds a small leafy, flowering stem. The entire outer surface is covered with a shiny, iron-based brown plaster, which also covers the top of the rim.
