Tea bowl
The bowl is complete; a break has been repaired with glue. It is circular in shape. The wall is flared at the top, the rim is straight and the top is plain. The wall curves at the base towards the sock, which is flat. The bowl rests on a straight ring-shaped foot. The bottom is recessed and flat. There are slight faults in the dough inside the bowl. The inner base shows a number of small linear marks; the decoration is hand-painted in polychrome of blue underglaze and red, green, black and gold overglaze. The painted decoration covers the rim, wall and inner base. It features a Chinese garden motif (Redgrave). Beneath the inner rim is a blue-traced braid, decorated with two alternating motifs: a string of pearls with a central core painted in blue, and a plant motif bordered by spirals and a broad line painted in red, framed between arcs-de-circle painted in blue. The background features a leafy stem painted in blue and red. The decoration on the outer wall consists of a garden, composed of an uneven terrace painted red and green, with a blue-painted rock with holes and gold highlights and bamboo feet painted blue and red, flanked by a red-painted fence with swastika panels, behind which rise leafy stems painted blue and others painted black and green, and garnished with flowers painted red.
