Tea bowl

The bowl is complete, with a chip on the inner rim. It is circular in shape. The wall is flared at the top, the rim is straight and the top is plain. The wall curves at the base towards the sock, which is slightly domed. The bowl rests on a straight ring-shaped foot, with a groove around the inside. The bottom is recessed and flat. There is a mark painted in blue below the base, in cursive letters: ff. The inner background features a number of small linear marks; the decoration is painted and applied by transfer printing. The decoration is blue with an oriental motif (Mother and child). There is a painted fillet at the top of the rim, which has run slightly over the inner rim. The printed decoration is visible on the inner base and on the outer wall. The background features a leafy, flowering stem. The decoration on the outer wall is an oriental scene with figures and plants. The main scene features three Oriental-style figures: a woman and child are seated on a bench, the child is holding a fan and a woman is standing to the mother’s right; a large handled urn separates them. A sock fence runs behind the figures, bordered by stylized elements and vegetation; butterflies flutter by the child. The secondary décor consists of an uneven grassy terrace, on which rest a stylized rock with a hole, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, and leafy, flowering stems.
