Mug reproduction
The stein is complete. It is circular. The wall is straight, with a tapering rim. In its lower third, the wall is domed and rests on a small annular foot, whose fulcrum is flat and free of glaze. The bottom is recessed and flat. The handle is vertical. Oval in shape and cross-section, it has a small vertical groove on its face. Its ends are folded down and rest on the wall; the lower end is thicker and has a flattened face. The handle is hollow, with a small circular perforation on the reverse. There are markings printed in red in a rectangular cartouche below the bottom, in three registers: FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES ONLY NOT FOR FOOD USE; The decoration is applied by decal in two-tone blue underglaze, and red and gold overglaze. It is of the Chinese Imari type, with a vegetal motif. The painted decoration covers the rim, wall and outer base, as well as the handle. Beneath the outer rim is a braid traced in blue and decorated with a row of star latticework in red, interrupted by a vegetal motif in blue with gold highlights between double red arched lines. The opposite walls are decorated with a floral plant motif in blue and red with gold highlights. The base of the wall is decorated with a row of vertical tongues with lobed tops, drawn in blue with red highlights. The face of the handle features a leafy stem with red flowers.
