The stein is complete; the handle has been broken off and repaired with glue. It is circular in shape. The shoulder is rounded, the neck is long and slightly constricted; it is topped by a flared neck, and the top is domed. The wall is domed and narrowed at the base. The base is slightly swollen and rests on a flat, unglazed base; the bottom is recessed and flat. The handle is vertical. Oval in shape and cross-section, its upper end is folded down and rests on the neck below the neck, while the other is folded down and rests on the wall. There are black painted markings under the base, in six registers: U. N. ANÇOS SOURE PORTUGAL PINTADO-A(.)MAO SÉC. XVII 330 – with a sun ; The decoration is hand-painted in purplish brown. It is animal-like. It covers the outer surface, i.e. the neck, shoulder and wall, base and handle. The rim is adorned with two superimposed solid bands in light and dark brown. The neck is adorned with two rows of traced and painted half-ovals, with parts in reserve. The upper half of the wall and the shoulder feature a scene framed by horizontal fillets and composed of an undulating terrace supporting a bird, a hare and a horse seen in profile and surrounded by leafy, flowering stems. The lower half is adorned with two rows of traced and painted half-ovals, with parts in reserve, followed by a wide cordon trimmed with painted half-ovals. The base is adorned with a row of traced and painted half-ovals, with parts in reserve, and decorated with vertical lines. A solid band is painted around the foot. The handle is adorned with a wavy vertical line separating two rows of pearls.
