Milk jug

The milk jug is complete; it has several cracks which have been consolidated with copper spikes. It is oval in shape. The wall is slightly swollen, the shoulder rounded and the neck slightly flared; it is topped by a rim that is lower at the back than at the front, with a straight top. The rim has an oval-shaped spout at the front, in line with the rim. The wall is narrowed at the base, and the pot rests on a rounded pedestal with a wide, flat base. The base is recessed and flat. The jar is fitted with a vertical handle of shallow oval shape, with a concave horizontal top and a rectangular protrusion at its apex. Its upper end is bent downwards, joining the top of the rim, while its elongated lower end rests on the wall and ends in an oval. The cross-section is oval. A mold line runs lengthwise through the middle of the pot’s outer surface. The pot has cracks on both sides, which have been reinforced with six copper spikes on each side, each inserted in a pair of small holes drilled in the outer wall ; The decoration is painted on the glaze, in pink lustre and non-lustre (Pink lustre), with a motif close to the English rural. The decoration is visible on the rim, outer wall and handle. A fillet covers the top of the rim and extends in a wide band along the inner and outer edges. The decoration on the outer wall consists of a rural scene repeated almost identically on the two opposite walls. It is composed of a high terrace in unglossy pink, resting on a fillet painted on the lower part of the wall, and whose base is underlined by a chain made of solid ovals; two fences are painted on the lower part of the terrace. The top of the terrace is flat and supports a large manor house on the left and a house on the right, which are loosely drawn; the manor house is rectangular in shape and its flat roof features three chimneys, while the house has a gable roof. These buildings are flanked by trees; there are clouds painted in unglossy pink in the sky above the scene. The top of the cove, as well as its vertical portion, are each adorned with a straight, leafy stem in glossy pink, and their outer junction is painted with a wide band en suite.
