This round bronze medal from the 17th century features a profile portrait of King Louis XIV of France with long, curly hair, as well as various Latin inscriptions. On its reverse side, the artifact features four unidentified profile portraits. Inscriptions can be found under each profile, as well as around the medal.

Historical context
This medal of recognition is called “du grand Onontio”, meaning “great mountain” in Huron, and indicates a political alliance with the Huron-Wendat community. From the end of the 17th to the beginning of the 18th century, this type of medal was given to native communities in New France by representatives of the French colonial power.
