Gadroon bowl
The bowl is complete; it has been broken, repaired with glue and plaster and repainted. It is circular in shape, with an undulating rim. The rim is thin and sloping outwards, while its marli is domed and curved towards the bottom, which is flat. On the reverse, it rests on a ring-shaped foot, the base of which is free of glaze. The center is recessed and flat. The bottom glaze shows two different small circular flaws resembling traces of pernette. There is a blue-painted mark below the base in a double ring: it is a square decorated with two linear geometric symbols ; The decoration is molded and hand-painted in blue on the face and reverse of the object. The molded decoration is visible on both the front and reverse of the marli; it consists of large bulges or gadroons, separated by a furrow perpendicular to the edge and symmetrically distributed from the edge to the bottom; on the reverse, these gadroons are flat. The painted decoration is scenic, in the style of China’s Transitional period. The inner surface of the object is entirely decorated. A fillet is drawn near the edge. The perimeter of each godron, trapezoidal in shape, is outlined in blue. Each one features a different decoration, consisting of a lake scene with mountains or flowering stems. The central design is surrounded by an octagon outlined in blue, within which are two concentric octagons with concave sides, the one on the outside being in reserve and the other solid. The main décor consists of a lake scene, on which a small boat sails, with a terrace in the center, on which two small figures walk, seen in profile and surrounded by rocks and trees; a building is also visible. The moon shines brightly in the sky. On the reverse, each lobe is decorated with a leafy, flowering stem.
