Compotier
The compotier is complete; a large chip is missing from the top, and a break has been repaired with iron studs. The compotier is octagonal with a plain contour. In cross-section, the wing is inclined, almost in line with the wall, and also inclined towards the bottom before curving towards the flat bottom. The bottom rests on an annular foot with a truncated cone-shaped cross-section. The body is brownish-red in color and covered with a bluish-white glaze; the foot is unglazed. There are smudges of enamel under the compotier, near the rim, as well as a few small holes in the enamel on the reverse. Three traces of linear and triangular pernettes are visible under the wall. The foot is pierced by two aligned circular holes, the inner wall of which is covered with enamel; one of the holes is broken. There are two marks painted in faded black under the base: 15. 15. A break runs through the dish; it is repaired with six rusty iron spikes. Made from a double iron rod, they are each inserted into a pair of small circular holes drilled in the back of the compotier and held in place by a hard white paste ; The decoration is hand-painted in blue. It was traced and painted in blue under glaze. It is of the compartmented braid and floral basket type. The decoration is painted on the wing and in the center of the base. The wing is decorated with a braid. The braid is decorated with two alternating motifs. One is in reserve on a blue-painted background: it consists of mirrored elements composed of a central petal surrounded by two scrolls followed by two quarter-flowers. These flowers are adorned with blue radiating lines. The other motif is a band with a reserve of rhombuses lined with pearls and painted blue. These two motifs are separated by a blue-painted half-flower, set in two blue-painted bands, while the sides are in reserve. The background features a flowery basket within a ring. The basket has a truncated cone shape on a flat swollen base with a flat swollen rim, and rests on a flared base; they are traced in blue and the basket is filled with a blue-painted latticework; the basket’s rendering imitates rattan. From the top of the basket emerges a central half-flower framed by two half-flowers; these are surrounded by leafy plant stems and grapes. The flowers are outlined in blue and partially filled with blue radiating lines, while the leaves, curved plant stems and grapes are painted blue. Two blue tendrils hang from either side of the basket. The basket is surrounded by a ring of alternating leafy stems and pearls. Curved plant stems and pearls are traced and painted blue.
