Vase

The vase is complete, with a few missing pieces around the rim. Its cylindrical shape is slightly narrowed at mid-height. The rim is flared and has a plain edge. The base is in line with the wall; the bottom is domed. The ring-shaped base is unglazed. The body is beige and the glaze is pale blue; the decoration is hand-painted in underglaze blue. It is figurative. The painted decoration is visible on the entire outer surface. The decoration on the face occupies almost the entire height of the vase; it is inserted into a polylobed oval on the sides, which is surmounted by two acanthus leaves and a half-flower painted in dark blue, while its base is adorned with either a flower or a bunch of grapes garnished with scrolling tendrils. The main decoration consists of two almost straight terraces, outlined in blue and painted in faded blue. On the main terrace stand two figures dressed in oriental style and seen from three-quarters view: a male figure wearing baggy pants and an elaborate hat, who appears to be in motion and holding what appears to be a large leaf in his hands, and a second, uncapped figure, leaning forward to lift a scroll. They are surrounded by stylized leafy plants. The upper terrace supports a stylized building covered with a thatched roof and bordered by two stylized trees. The remaining surface of the vase is decorated with leafy, flowering stems, with a pattern of four small lozenges arranged in a square at the top and base.
